The "imoral" majority.

I was surprised that it took so long for the far right to respond to the prop 8 decision. They have finally broken their silence it seems.
I feel the need to comment about this. It seems to me that those who come out most aggressively against same sex couples are those of questionable moral character.
John Edwards said that letting gay couples marry would cheapen marriage; he had a 19 month affair with a woman on his staff then denied that he fathered her child.
Mike Huckabee came out strongly opposed to gay marriage, he also had an affair.
This is a very small sampling, but think of the larger implication. If asked to look closely at themselves how many "anti" gay people are holding their own marriages as sacred.
The people on the far right, and even some moderates, would have you believe that it is a moral issue. They will say that same sex couples somehow cheapen the sacred act of marriage. My response to that is in two parts; one who's moral code are we talking about. For me it is far more important that two people engaging in a relationship be loyal to each other. How is a gay couple who are devoted to each other less moral than a married couple who commit adultery. The second part of my response is this; heterosexual couples are doing a mighty fine job of making marriage less sacred all on their own. The idea that something is cheapened because more people have access to it is elitist. This way of thinking is in stark contrast to what Christ taught about love.
The last thing I would like you to think about is this.
We are a nation of laws, one of those laws is the separation of church and state.
Judges make decisions based on civil law not on gods law. There are those who would have you believe that a persons civil rights should be taken away because the lifestyle they lead is in contrast to a popular religious view. That is not the case at all, the Constitution protects all U.S citizens regardless of race, gender, or sexual orientation. All men are created equal, and should have access to all the same rights.

  1. Clarification of church and state:
it was meant to keep the state out of the church not the church out of the state. cuz with out God all else fails. it was meant to protect the church from the government. (no government run church)

who's moral code are we talking about? .... GODs
Gods law supersedes any government that goes against His law

How is a gay couple who are devoted to each other less moral than a married couple who commit adultery..... There not... they are on the same level. homosexuality and adultery are a sin. A sin is a sin. For the wages of sin is death but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord. Romans 6:23 I dont want anyone to go to hell thus i am not going to condone sin. Since i am a follower of Jesus i have to take a stand against what God says is a sin. That means homosexuality, adultery, abortion, murder, hate crimes, lies, and sexual sin along with many many others.

  2. I need to correct you on one point, the separation of church and state was put in place because people were being mistreated by a "moral" majority. This separation is not just to keep government out of churches, it is a two way street. No law can be based on purely religious views.
If you are indeed Christian should you not believe in free agency, that is the ability for an individual to choose the life they want to live.
It is not your right to keep civil rights away from someone because you believe it is a sin to love whomever you want.
What you do in your church is fine, just don't let it spill into the area of civil rights.
I cannot believe that you actually believe that you are doing a good thing in keeping families apart.

  3. Dear Anonymous,
Check your history - church and state were separated so that people could practice different religions in peace without fear of legal (often gruesome) consequences. I really thought this bit of information was common knowledge.

If the ALMIGHTY GOD is so upset about gay marriage shouldn't we let him in his infinite knowledge strike those evil heathens down? I have heard that God is very good at the smiting and striking out of evil people.

  4. The First Amendment to the U.S. Constitution~~ "Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the government for a redress of grievances."...

The phrase "separation of church and state" is generally traced to an 1802 letter by Thomas Jefferson to the Danbury Baptists, where Jefferson spoke of the combined effect of the Establishment Clause and the Free Exercise Clause of the First Amendment. His purpose in this letter was to assuage the fears of the Danbury, Connecticut Baptists, and so he told them that this wall had been erected to protect them.... They were getting mistreated by the government. And its not religious views we are talking about. If you dont believe God your not going to get it.

Yes i believe that people can CHOOSE the life they want to live. However i am not going to go against God and support a sinful lifestyle...they can still live that way but i am not going to support the life style. Do you see how gay people portray themselves in parades all half naked, nasty scenes, obscenities, handing out cups and flags to children with web sites for gay men...they are little children. I dont think that the GLBT or the government should tell anyone they have to accept something that they believe is morally or biblicaly WRONG

  6. "no law respecting an establishment of religion"

That is clearly about the separation of church and state, not a after thought, or a piece of historical errata, it was and is a founding precept. In the old world, governments backed religion, religion backed governments. The puritan's executed their king, Spain butchered millions in numerous Inquisition just partly out of religious fervor. Most the people killed by the Inquisition did so at whims of rulers and governments that bent that church to serve them. The religions were not in control, governments had corrupted them to serve their secular needs. Read Thomas Paine, or Benjamin Franklin, they believed in separation of church and state, as a befit to religion, so the state would not force the population to serve a religion that they didn't believe in. Why do you assume that Aaron doesn't believe in God because she doesn't believe in a cruel God that is without mercy. Good christian in my faith and others fight charity and social programs. The bible is quit clear on charity and good works, and not judging others, and turning the other cheek, and not committing acts of violence but some how good Christian's seem to forget all about that part of the Bible.

  7. Issac pointed out the history better than I, but I was also am thinking much farther back than just the founding fathers. Many people came to the "New World" to escape religious/government persecution.

Christians of all sects would NOT be able to exist if the state were involved with religious practices. There would only be ONE church not many different ones.

Anonymous I have heard and I have my own beliefs that have no real place here.

But the real question I have is this - why in the hell are you taking children to gay pride parades? Might as well take them to New Orleans for Mardi Gras where the Hetro-sexuals strip for plastic beads!

  8. A.S. Gabbitas ~I have never taken a child to a gay pride parade but i have seen pictures. some of the events i mentioned were at a regular parade.

Isaac I dont know what God you are talking about But the God from the bible is a merciful one not a cruel one otherwise he never would sent His son to die for us so that we can go to heaven. And you are right some people (who call themselves Christians) dont act in a way that is at all Christ like, but not all Christians are like that.
