A comment on KSL's "the dream divided"

I am really enjoying this series of news stories done here in Utah by KSL 5. Tonight was about the children of undocumented workers and how they are seen as criminals even though they were to young to have been culpable in the actions of their parents.
I was shocked and saddened that anyone would think of sending young children back to a country they know nothing about. The real tragedy about it is that these children grew up in America and are being punished for a crime committed by a parent or parents.
I would ask people to look at it another way. If a man were arrested for selling drugs and his kids were in the car with him, would we take his kids to jail? The answer of course is no.
It is paramount that we remember that these children are human beings who like all children are at the mercy of their parents.
When any legislation is created those who create it have to look at many factors.
1. is the legislation enforceable.
2. can we afford it.
3. what are the unforeseen consequences of this legislation.
I grow worried that the social and political atmosphere of today is so negative that we forget that we are talking about people. Whatever you feel about any social situation you should NEVER forget that every issue is complex and that there is no "one size fits all" fix.

  1. I would have to agree with you with this one, but you have to remember the children born here do have documents they have a birth certificate from the US making them a automatic citizen. Its not them going back it will be there Parents that still having got US citizenship, but its still sad to hear that the child will be left alone without there parents. Yet we can't take care of everyone right now, not with whats going on at the boarder our "safe" feeling country is at stake and I fore-see a civil war and war with Mexico. Having this Immigration law will give us some kind of protection from this. They have been doing this for a reason for so long almost 15 years. I've seen this on hand, I use to live in a small small 1 bedroom apartment that was covered in cockroaches and just could not afford anything nicer then this, but in the other 10 apartments there was something I wish I took pictures of, Hispanic Warehousing and slumlords! that's right where there packed into small apartments big family's of 8 to 20 people and the parents and older ones are all illegals with stolen ID's (SSI numbers to get taxes)And this company they work for does to pay them bottom dollar so they don't have to pay the min wage, They even drive these people to work, and guess where these people send this money, Mexico! And now people are wondering where all the US money has gone, duh, out of circulation. I see this happening all over! and the drug trafficking happening on the boarders also men and women being sold and raped and beaten, I wonder if you seen those photos on Glenn Becks site of the dead bodies yet, there all over the boarders, its gross. Do you want this to happen to the US? I sure don't, I want a safe community for my kids and families and friends to live in. I don't want no Drug lords from Mexico here ours are bad enough but there worse, here thinking they can take over the US. Our citizens are on the broader now fighting these people like you and me because the government hasn't done nothing, they even killed some citizens like us on there own private homes near the broader.
I'm worried about US Citizens (meaning all races and colors that fought to get citizenship even there babies that were born here) and people like you and me. We are already at war out east we don't need that here. I see a law like this better then putting up a fence along the broader, which seems more insulting and cost more US dollars. Mind you we already have a unfinished fence along the broader, So don't think the government can't fix that.

  2. First of all I was talking specificly about children who are not born in America being sent to an unfamiliar country because of a crime their parents commited.
Second are you honestly saying that people who die, some at the hands of armed Texan's are gross. What a horrid thing to say about another human being. I chose to get news from a reliable source not GB. Oh and FYI we have drug lords in America too and *gasp* they are American.
As to your comment about empoyers exploiting workers, are you saying it's the immigrants fault that they are treated so horridly?
